Way back in the day, before I discovered the art of speech balloons, I differentiated character dialogue through font selection. On the upside, you could in theory tell who was speaking even when that person didn't appear in a panel. On the downside, I was always having to squeeze the text in around the line art. Notice how the shelves behind Nic are all empty? Really low overhead-- she only does commissioned pieces.

I'm getting better-- the arrival of nearly 40 lbs. of temple oranges bodes for the return of full health. I'm genki enough that I'm trying out some really weird things this week-- expect amateur attempts at illustration stunts instead of plot. The blue pencil really has me trying things out.
