January 29th, 2000 -- On the Dance Floor

Those moves in Nic's solo frame are actually things we used to do on a regular basis at club night, my friends and I. There's a little Swamp Terrorists reference in there, too.

I'm not overly skilled at drawing action/motion, but I cannot overemphasize the importance of actually dancing when you go to a goth club. Yeah, the music can be... weepy, or angsty. But moving around to it feels good, in a way that the solitary goth moping at home might not realize. I offer you my dancing advice:

1) Feel no shame. The majority of the other people at the club haven't had any training either. You're all amateurs. Nor are you dancing for them. You're dancing because you think that particular Project Pitchfork beat is a personal message to you that something is right with the world.

2) Respect those on the floor. In saying so I mean first, don't make fun of those you think can't dance (see above). If you don't like it, don't look. Second, give people some space. Me, I like to do a pogo to certain Banshees' songs while other people are slinking. I give them a wide berth and don't impose my dancing on their space.

3) Stay hydrated. No, really-- that PVC can really squeeze it out of you, especially when you're flailing around like a chicken. Mmmm... goth chicken. I suppose that'd be Buffalo wings with needle tracks?

September 28th, 2008

Alas will be back for the month of October. How can I let a Halloween go by without her?

March 4th, 2008

Within 24 hours, Bauhaus releases a new album (inspiring my inner black-hearted Goth), and Gary Gygax passes away (crushing my inner magic-user geek). What up with that, world?

February 19th, 2008

I'm getting better-- the arrival of nearly 40 lbs. of temple oranges bodes for the return of full health. I'm genki enough that I'm trying out some really weird things this week-- expect amateur attempts at illustration stunts instead of plot. The blue pencil really has me trying things out.
