February 23rd, 2005 -- A Plague of 80s
Because I have houseguests right now, we've been in a sort of media blackout since Friday (by which I mean, we've been watching old Turkish films and Drew Carey re-runs instead of CNN). Thus it was only yesterday morning that I discovered Hunter S. Thompson had committed suicide. Like any guy whose resemblance to Spider Jerusalem increases day by day, I was a fan of Thompson, though I wouldn't consider him a role model, and while his death is a disappointment, I can't call it a surprise. As far as I know, Thompson, like monologist Spalding Grey, left no note-- but also like Grey, his entire body of work could be considered one long note. Too weird to live, to unique to die.

Within 24 hours, Bauhaus releases a new album (inspiring my inner black-hearted Goth), and Gary Gygax passes away (crushing my inner magic-user geek). What up with that, world?

I'm getting better-- the arrival of nearly 40 lbs. of temple oranges bodes for the return of full health. I'm genki enough that I'm trying out some really weird things this week-- expect amateur attempts at illustration stunts instead of plot. The blue pencil really has me trying things out.

Day 8 of this ruddy cold, and little sleep last night due to coughing. If a strip for Monday goes up, it's most likely to happen on Tuesday.
