Minimalist sight gags.
Funny how it goes-- just on Monday I was getting ready to gush about all these other webcomic strips I love, and then on Tuesday this weird controversey erupts around events over at Keenspot, one of the premier hosts of internet-based comics. Before you know it, people are filling forums with flaming, ranting pages, harping at the Websnark, and toying with the volcanic temper of Scott Kurtz. I mean, man. I still love reading these guys' work, but it's the sort of un-signifying sound and fury that makes me never want to have forums for this site. Remind me to never ever write anything about the internet webcomic community at large (er, beyond this post).
Sigh.
So, there's plenty of controversey-free fun happening over at Order of the Stick, your SRD 3.5 compatible RPG comic. It's like Knights of the Dinner Table for the 21st Century, and it appeals to the gamer geek in me. The Pet Professional is new, and regrettably stingy in the updates, but it's got a slick look I can learn from. My best discovery by far, though, has got to be Skinny Panda, a masterpiece of black and white that manages to out-Eeyore Eeyore in its pleasant melancholy. It's got wit, style, cuteness, and an unpredictable ability to slip over into rather adult humor (which is still funnier than it is outrageous). As far as I know, the artist, Phil Cho, is no relation to that Liberty Meadows guy.

Alas will be back for the month of October. How can I let a Halloween go by without her?

Within 24 hours, Bauhaus releases a new album (inspiring my inner black-hearted Goth), and Gary Gygax passes away (crushing my inner magic-user geek). What up with that, world?

I'm getting better-- the arrival of nearly 40 lbs. of temple oranges bodes for the return of full health. I'm genki enough that I'm trying out some really weird things this week-- expect amateur attempts at illustration stunts instead of plot. The blue pencil really has me trying things out.
